Using the Scanner

- Lift the lid of the scanner and insert the item to be scanned.
- Launch "Microsoft Photo Editor." This program is bundled with Office 97. (You
can use any photo editing software with which you are familiar. Most scanners come with
photo editing software.)
- Click on the scanner button on the toolbar or click on File, Scan Image.
- A menu will pop up on the left. Click on "millions of colors" if you're
scanning a photo. Click on "line art" if you're scanning text or a black and
white image without depth.
- Set the resolution at 72 if posting to the web or between 100 and 150 if you plan to
print the image. The higher the resolution, the larger the file and the longer it takes to
scan.
- In the window on the right, click on "Preview." The image you are scanning
will appear on your screen.
- Crop the image by clicking on the box with the broken lines on the toolbar. Click on the
image and drag the box around the part you want to scan.
- Click on "Scan."
- Crop the scanned image if necessary. Click on the box with the broken lines on the
toolbar. Click and drag the sides of the box around the part that you want to save. Click
on Image, Crop.
- From the crop menu, you may choose the style of the corners of the scanned image, make
an oval image, etc.
- Click "OK."
- Save your image by clicking on File, Save. You may save the image to a disk, to your
hard drive, to your desktop, etc.
