Who doesn't love butterflies? This simple craft makes a
great spring art project for early elementary students,
using only recycled tissue rolls, pipe cleaners, and con-
struction paper.

MAKE A WINDSOCK:

Recycled pant legs or shirt sleeves take on new lives--
as amazing windsocks--with this springtime craft. Ask
students to bring in colorful old shirts, or try decor-
ating white shirt sleeves with bright fabric paint and
unique designs.

Eggshells are carefully decorated with tempera paints
and then attached to pipe cleaners for a fragile yet
quite beautiful spring flower bouquet. For stronger

garten through sixth grade. Different mediums are utilized

bug home. Plan on using this project with your early to
upper elementary classes, perhaps for a combined art and
science project.

These colorful sunflowers start with paper plates--choose
fairly sturdy ones to be able to handle all the buttons
that form the sunflower "seeds". Green ribbons--use paper,
fabric, or crepe paper, complete this wonderful windsock
to hang in a breezy doorway.

Just what does the coming of spring mean to your stu-
dents? Chances are that answers will vary widely in
different regions of the country. Print out this poem
