Honors

bulletWRITING:  Students are required to write college entrance essays, a career research paper, interpretive and analytical papers, creative writing responses to literature, and essay tests.  In addition, each nine weeks a book report will be due.  Books are chosen from a reading list.

 

bulletVOCABULARY: Each week students will receive vocabulary words to learn.  One vocabulary test will be administered each nine weeks.  These words are ones that frequently are used on the SAT's.

 

bulletLITERATURE:  Students study American Literature in thematic units.  Besides short stories and poetry, novels and plays are part of the curriculum.   
bulletPuritanism:  The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, Ethan Frome
bulletMaterialism:  The Great Gatsby
bulletDark Romanticism:  The Glass Menagerie
bulletRealism:  The Catcher in the Rye

Summer reading is required for this class.  The novels The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and A Separate Peace are to be read prior to the first day of school.
