On February 22, 1917 Mr. Underwood met with a group of citizens to discuss possibilities of organizing a glass plant company in Knox. The first manufacturing of bottles on October 5, 1917 was done by hand. One hundred people were employed at the local plant and they put out about twelve tons of bottles a day. Three hundred sixty-five people were employed in Knox. The annual production was 1,162,00 gross. The value of the annual production was approximately $5,100,000 with an annual payroll of $1,500,000.
