Dr. Myers' Office of Dentistry:
one of the few
long-standing businesses in the area.
By Scott, Class of
2004
For
over 23 years, the office of Dr. Myers has been serving the
community of Knox with first-class dentistry with fairly inexpensive
rates. Maybe that’s the reason that his office has thrived since 1978
while so many other new businesses have come into the area and failed.
Maybe we’ve uncovered a secret.
Dale
Leroy Myers, was born in the Knox area and lived in this area during his
youth. He attended Keystone High School and after graduating went
to Clarion State College. After graduating in four years
and getting his college diploma Dale went to attend Pitt School of
Dentistry to get his Doctrine of Dentistry. As soon as he got out
of school, Dr. Myers opened up his office because of the need of
dentistry in the area.
My
interview with Dr. Myers was fairly interesting in the sense that I
learned how to own and run a small business in a small town and also how
to make it thrive without being a ruthless competitor. Dr. Myers proved
to be a good subject in the business field, but also a kind man who
cared about his patients.
The significance of my subject is that he is
one of the few people who have been able to keep a small business
running in the small town of Knox for an extended period of time (almost
25 years). His dental office has been a permanent business in this town
for a quarter of a century, and if he can make his business work, then
the information that we get from him should be able to help others get
their small business running.
Within the 23 years that Dr. Myers
has been in business, his office has been filled to its maximum capacity,
showing that businesses can become very healthy and make people a lot of
money in the Knox area.
Also Dr. Myers' office brings money into other
businesses in Knox like Vinny's or Pizza Shop since many people will
just eat in town after going to the dentist instead of going home and
cooking. This shows how businesses in Knox can help each other by
providing customers for one another.
As
well as being a dentist though, Dr. Myers is also a crucial member of
the community since he gives to the Relay for Life, helps sponsor the
school musical, helps support the Varsity Football Team by buying a page
in the program for advertising, and is a former member of the Keystone School Board. This helps to show that the Knox Community also
is very diverse in the activities and charities that a person can be involved
with and still be able to keep an important business running.
My interview will enhance our project because the information
I have given by Dr. Myers will show
other people that might want to open a small business here that a
business can survive and flourish even in the small containments of the
community of Knox. With his information and the information given by
some other people I think that this project will definitely have a
positive result on bringing new businesses back to Knox and the
surrounding area.
