The history of boys’ basketball here at Keystone has had its ups and downs.  Keystone has had basketball here for 45 years from 1957-2002.  We have had many District 9 titles in our history but never a state title, although we would like to pursue one this season.

When Keystone was in class AA we won seven District 9 titles.  The first one was in the 1959-1960 season.  Our next District 9 title was during the 1976-1977 season when we defeated Elk County Christian.  The very next year we defeated Ridgeway to capture our third District 9 title.  The next one was in the 1981-1982 season when we again defeated Elk County Christian.  Our next District 9 title came seven years later when we defeated Port Allegany 60 to 58.  The very next year we defeated Curwensville 62 to 49.    In the 1996 season we defeated Curwensville again to start our back to back to back District 9 title run.  During the 1997 season we defeated Otto-Eldred 57 to 48 for our second District 9 title.  The third title came in the 1998 season when we upset Coudersport 54 to 44.  In the 1999-2000 season we fell short of our fourth District 9 title in a double overtime loss to Elk County Christian 65 to 61.

Since the 1980-1981 season Keystone has only had 4 loosing seasons.  In the 1980-1981 season we had a record of 13 wins and 7 losses.  In the 1981-1982 season we also had a winning record, which was 15 wins and 5 losses.  During the 1982-1983 season we had a rough season, we had 5 wins and 15 losses.  The following year we also had a losing season with 7 wins and 13 losses.  The 1984-1985 season was the worst year in Keystone basketball history we had 1 win and 19 losses.  This was the year the Panthers got a new coach and his name was Mr. Greg Heath who was and still is arguably the best coach in the KSAC.  The 1985-1986 season we still had some wrinkles to fix.  Our record was 3 wins and 17 losses.  In the 1986-1987 season Coach Heath turned things around for the Panthers taking them back up to the top of the standings where they belonged.  Our record was 16 wins and 4 losses.  The following year the 1989-1990 season Coach Heath said it was the best team he ever had.  The Panthers went undefeated with 20 wins and 0 losses.  The 1995-1996 brought Coach Heath and the Panthers more attention being at the top of the KSAC standing with a record of 17 wins and 1 loss.  This was the beginning of our three District 9 tiles run.  The 1996-1997 brought us more luck being in second place in the KSAC with a record of 15 wins and 3 losses.  This was the year of our second District 9 title.  The 1997-1998 brought us back up to the top of the standing with a 17 wins and 1 loss season also our third District 9 title.  During the 1998-1999 season said why we had won three District 9 titles in the past three years.  We were at the top of the charts again with a 13 win and 3 loss season but failed to keep our title streak going in the double overtime loss to ECC in the championship game.  In the 1999-2000 season Coach Heath’s Panthers had a record of 12 wins and 4 losses and were third in the KSAC standings.  Finally 2000-2001 Panthers had the same record 12 wins and 4 losses and again were third in the league standings.   The KSAC stands for the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference.  Before it was given the name the KSAC it was called the Clarion County League. (CCL)  Now in more recent stats.  Keystone has an all time leading scorer, which is Tom Pore who for his career scored 1875 points.  The best field goal percentage was Jason Say at 64.2%.  Our best free throw shooter percentage wise here at Keystone is none other than Mr. Greg Heath at 86%.  Keystones all time leading passer is Ed Bowser with 177 assists in one season.  The Panthers all time leading rebounder is none other than the great Jeremy McCool who plays for the great Harlem Globetrotters had 1069 rebounds for his career.  Finally the most points ever scored in one game was set by Doug Perine with 46 points on November 29, 1977 at DuBois Central Christian.  Finally the District 9 all-stars from the 2000-2001 season were Garrett Heath and Charlie Cotherman.  Garrett was named second team All- KSAC and also named third team All- District and played in the All-Star game.  Charlie was named first team All-KSAC and also named first team All- District and also participated in the All-Star game.

As you can see the Keystone Panthers have had some very successful seasons and some not so successful seasons but after all we are the Panthers and were going to keep that winning tradition alive for years to come.
