One of the most important assignments that the explorers were given was the keeping of journals. Through these journals the world would learn of their discoveries, challenges and experiences as they traveled across the land. The journals included written text and drawings, especially of new plants and animals, to record the journey. Also recorded were the cultures of the Native Americans and their interaction with the explorers. Captain Clark had the task of drawing maps.

Although the journals of Captains Lewis and Clark have tended to be the most famous, several of the enlisted men also kept journals, giving different perspectives from those of the officers. All of these journals are the primary sources for our knowing today what happened over two hundred years ago.

Your task will be to develop an electronic scrapbook of 5 to 7 pages on PowerPoint detailing a section of the trip determined by time and place. Your scrapbook will include your observations as you travel and will have pictures to support your text. You may include quotes from primary journal sources, as well as your own ideas.

Example of a Slide

All pictures must be credited by putting the sources' basic urls under them. If you use Google images, then you must credit the original site. Be sure to note the site immediately, so you do not have to find it again. Your final slide will be a works cited page of all the web sites from which information was used. You may use Citation Machine or Noodletools to format your MLA citations.

Reminder --- Pictures must be saved and then inserted into the slides, not cut-and-pasted.
