Lesson 3--Google Search Engine

There are many keyword search engines on the Web, Wendi, but I'll tell you about three of the more popular ones--Google, AltaVista, and Excite.
But why do I need to know about so many different search engines, Will? Can't I just pick one and use it all the time?
Not all search engines are the same, Wendi. Each has different pages on its server. So if you don't find what you're looking for using one search engine, it's a good idea to try a different one.
I guess that's kinda like shopping. If I don't find what I want in one store, I look in a different one. Not all stores sell the same items.
Good analogy, Wendi, although it amazes me how you can relate everything to shopping!

Now, let's take a look at the largest keyword search engine, Google. Google sorts pages by popularity and authority.

Where do I find Google on the Web?
Just click here to go to www.google.com. While you're there, find the search box and read over Google's advanced search tips. You'll use Google for searching later.
I know, hit the Back button to get back to this page when I'm done!
